New Music

Hello out there!

Gosh I really am sorry for dropping off the planet the last year.  So many times I saw things I wanted to share with you, things I wanted to say.  Alas- between day jobs and little people, there just has been any me time at all.  But I’ve been chipping away, literally 15 minutes here and there, in the middle of the night mostly, to bring you some new music and a little video to go with it.

If you enjoy it- feel free to download yourself a free copy on my soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/osh10/eunoia

I can’t promise I’ll be back tomorrow- but I’ll do my best not to be a stranger on these pages.

xx Aimee

The Ripcord- Brand new single from osh10

I launched a brand new song just over a week ago.  It’s the 3rd and final single to be released ahead of my new album.  I also released a video to accompany the song.  I did all of the direction and editing duties myself this time.   Juggling a newborn baby I needed to keep the concept and details of the single simple but still make it visually interesting.  I had a lot of fun with it and despite a lot of constraints on my time, I found the process a whole lot easier and more efficient than previous videos.

This album contains a lot more pop sensibilities than previous work and I’ve really enjoyed the freedom (and the restriction) that comes with a 3 minute music punch. Hope you enjoy it!

Music Video- This Lonely Room

I posted the soundcloud link for This Lonely Room a few days ago because with my last single, I released both the audio and the video at the same time and I got such overwhelming feedback on the video ( I suspect mainly because of the whole crazy cat obsession in it), which was wonderful- but no one mentioned the song at all and the music is why I do it, it is what I spend the majority of my time and energy on, so I found it really strange that the very thing I was trying to promote got swept to the side.

Making videos is definitely a fun thing, but the experience taught me how visual people are- that as soon as you put an image with something it sticks, the two seem to become quite inseparable.  When I write music, I have strong visuals in my head, I know what the characters look like and when I listen to music, I love that we can put our own visuals to a soundtrack.  It was a tough choice to create a video for this particular track, because it is a dark, brooding, building song- but I didn’t want the video to be too angsty and so we decided to take a cue from the likes of Dario Argento and David Lynch, Joss Whedon or even Quentin Tarantino- who can turn a very serious dark moment into something a bit absurd- in the case of my video we went for lo-fi special fx and gore.  It’s a video that doesn’t take itself too seriously, even though I don’t think of the song itself as a joke.

I hope you enjoy the video- but would also love it if you took time to close your eyes and listen to the song in it’s own right.  Above all- thank you for your time to do either, We live in such a fast paced world and I appreciate you supporting me so much!

The song is out on itunes now.

FELINE

YES!!! I can finally share the first single from my new album with you—–Introducing Feline

The best part is that there is a brand new video to go with it.
It was a lot of fun to make. As almost none of the songs on my forthcoming album are autobiographical,(it wasn’t a conscious thing, however each one has a particular character and story that is very distinct from my experiences and life)  and so it was great to be able to inhabit this particular quirky lady for the Feline video and quite seriously, who would not love being in a video with a giant cat!

I really hope you enjoy it and if you are so inclined to own a copy (I certainly hope that is the case) you can buy it now through most digital retailers including Itunes, Amazon or streaming through Spotify

Some people who worked with me on this song who you should know about because they are awesome (from mixing and mastering to putting on a cat costume!)

Myles Mumford

Anthony Lyons

Josh Harris

Adam Dempsey

Andrew McPherson

Thanks and big hugs also go to: Rory McDougall, Dave Evans, Al Parsons, Tommy Spender & Patrick McMullin
The new album will find it’s way to you hopefully by years end, but I’ll be sure to give you another song and introduce you to another character before then.
MEOW!  XO Aimee

meowing your way!

On August 16th I’ll be releasing my brand new single out into the world.  It is called Feline and I can’t wait to share it!  The initial idea for the song came about from watching the wily tactics our beautiful cat Figaro (and cats in general) use to coerce you into doing their bidding.

As I sit here typing Miss Figaro is asleep and snoring on my lap, so I thought while I am being used as her personal sofa I would share my favourite youtube cat video (of which there are MANY!) Ninja Cat!  Do you have a favourite? Please share the link.

Musicoz Awards

Well I thought I was just going to be going to work as per usual tomorrow- but it seems I’ll be getting on a plane and heading to the red carpet of the Sydney Opera House as a finalist in this year’s MusicOz Awards.

It’s an expensive undertaking to fly up there at short notice (as everything in being a musician seems to be hard on my bank balance!)  but I think win or lose- sometimes you need to take opportunities such as this to stop and acknowledge the hard work that you have put into creating a song and let it be celebrated by yourself, your peers and the industry.  All too often we have already moved onto recording the next song while the previous one is just finding it’s way out into the world- so tomorrow night, I’ll pop on a frock, enjoy a little bit more sunshine than we currently have in Melbourne- (although Melbourne in your defence you really have turned it on today!) and celebrating the diversity and depth of Australia’s unsigned talent.

You can watch the awards live and then on repeat right here:

Improvised sets on Joy FM

I can’t believe it’s the middle of May.  I guess we say it every year- but really, 2012 does seem to be flying along quicker than most.  I guess that’s in part because I’m so busy.

In April I visited the studios of Joy FM in Melbourne and did a live to air performance for House of Jack– one of the only shows I’ve come across that plays not only the trip-hop pioneers like Lamb and Portishead, but independently released and little heard exponents of the genre and beyond.  I am really grateful for the support of this show and it was so much fun to play.

I choose to assemble a whole bunch of electronic sounds that I’ve been working on for an upcoming instrumental album and do an improvised performance using them.  It will give you a good indication of the direction of the album.

Along with my performance (which you can download for free!) you can also listen and download performances by  Nat GrantTodd Anderson-Kunert and James Annesley.

Big Love for Adelaide

Well I’m back home after a whirlwind few days in the city of churches. I can now say with absolute certainty that it is certainly not all about churches in this fine South Australian capital- they sure now how to throw one hell of a festival- or 3.

On Wednesday night I headed after an afternoon of wandering around to get my bearings (I am the worst navigator you will possibly ever meet) I headed out to a pop up bar, down an alley way called Arcade Lane to catch the first round of bands for Fuse Festival. I finally got to see a fellow Melbournian who I had heard a lot about but who had seemed to elude me when it came to a live show, so it was lovely to finally see Kristina Militiadou, particularly in such a gorgeous venue, with incredible balmy Summer weather.  Thursday was spent chatting with other bands and sitting in on conference topics before a bit of a chat with Seb on The Range: Radio Adelaide   you can stream the interview right HERE!    Seb also started the show with a new track that I also have a crush on: Genisis by Grimes: Really beautiful…. have a listen-

Then it was time for my showcase!  Super excited by the venue- Cuckoo Bar Big congrats to Phil & Sarah for creating such a stylish forum for electronic music.  I would highly recommend a visit if you are in town!

So my showcase was an absolute blast, really had a great time and have to say an enormous thank you to the people who made it down to watch.  Some super brilliant new friends to be made (That would be you Brent, Sam & Elizabeth xox) and just all round good vibes.

If you couldn’t make it down- Here’s one of my songs captured live by Spoz and his youtube channel is wonderful for getting a glimpse of some of the other great bands that were on show (I’m glad he shot Hawks of Alba, cause I wanted to catch them and they were playing too close to my slot at another venue) Spoz’s blog has a lot of footage for music in Adelaide albeit with heavily weighted to non electronic/electro music – but absolutely worth a peruse, if only for the volume of music he manages to take photos and footage of.

Final night was Fringe Festival Opening Night- complete with parade. Honestly Adelaide you really do have amazing energy and I am so very fond of you! I’m going to come back soon and I’ll be sure to bring friends with me.

XOXO

Thanks to everyone who made the trip so amazing!

XO
